The Declaration in Script in Print
As part of Morven’s Generation Declaration speaker series, Morven welcomes John Bidwell, Curator Emeritus at the Morgan Library. The Declaration of Independence became a work of art during the nineteenth century as new printing technology enabled elaborate ornamentation and put owning a copy within reach of the masses. Bidwell delves into these artistic styles, which included everything from portraits of founders to the Liberty Bell, and describes how Declaration prints and broadsides impacted American popular culture.
